On level ground with the Judge of all the earth

This fifth century mosaic from Ravenna pictures the encounter between God and Abraham in Genesis 18. In this conversation, it is evident that God and Abraham can discuss and even argue meaningfully about justice. Abraham expects an explanation, but God seems eager to explain the ways of heaven even more than Abraham desires to know. At no point do we hear Abraham say, "You are God, you know best, I don't need to understand." This ENCOUNTER is the subject of chapter 8 in God of Sense.
